New Homes Available Soon: Windsor and Petaluma Models
Active Adult Communities – Rio Vista
From the low-mid $300,000’s there is one Windsor (2,018 sq.ft.) and one Petaluma (2,381 sq.ft.) model available for move-in within 3-4 months.
Make your decision today…move into your new home at Rio Vista!

The Windsor model (homesite #6051) features 2 bedrooms and 2 baths with a 2 car garage.
From the minute you step up to the front door, the Windsor reaches out and pulls you in. The inviting exterior smoothly transitions into a roomy interior that makes the most of all 2,018 square feet. Once inside, you’ll be awed by the greatness of the great room, ready for whatever you can dream up—dinner parties, movie nights, you name it.
The dream kitchen has a large island and plenty of area to whip up Grandma’s chicken Parmesan recipe. And with the kitchen only steps away from the great room, it’s easy to grab the wine glasses and deliver a toast to friends, all while keeping an eye on the cake in the oven.
At the back of your home, the relaxing master suite gives you a chance to unwind on your optional covered patio (a covered patio is also an option off the great room). Weekend guests are free to relax, too, with the front guest room and bath separated from any activity that may be going on elsewhere. To give more guests an excuse to stay up late, convert the den into a third bedroom. Or, use it to lead your friends in yoga poses or play a mean game of darts. The options for entertaining are as wide open as your imagination.
The Petaluma model (homesite #6033) features 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths with a 2 car garage.
Inspired by stately homes with welcoming porches and gorgeous detailing, the Petaluma’s front courtyard and porch provide outdoor entertaining possibilities year round. They also add to the livable square footage offered by this sizable home, with multiple options for customizing.
Will you choose the Windsor or Petaluma model as your new home?
You can’t go wrong with either choice!

Active Adults Dance the Carolina Shag
February 8, 2010 by lisa

Does your Retirement Community encourage you to stay active? Like to dance? Do you remember the Carolina Shag??
In the 1950’s and 1960’s, high school students of the Carolinas flocked to Myrtle Beach — actually they still do. But back in the 50’s and 60’s, everybody danced the Shag or the Carolina Shag, as it is sometimes called. Wikipedia says The Carolina Shag is a six count partner dance done mostly to moderate tempo music (100-150 bpm). During the dance the upper body and hips hardly move as the legs do convoluted kicks and fancy footwork. The Carolina Shag is the state dance of North Carolina and South Carolina.
For some reason, those high school students of the 50’s and 60’s have never let go of those happy, carefree days. Perhaps because it’s such a perfect dance!
Dancing is a great way to celebrate life! Why not take some classes?

Fitness is Key in Active Adult Communities

Fitness is key in leading an Active Adult Lifestyle!
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) gathered some of the top experts on exercise for seniors and discovered that, for the most part, when older adults lose the ability to do normal activities of daily living on their own, it’s not due strictly to age. It is more likely that they have become inactive. We know that an active lifestyle enhances quality of life at any age.
Seniors just beginning an exercise program absolutely must first consult with their physician. This is imperative from a safety perspective. In addition, your physician is most likely the best and most reliable source for consultation as to what activities at the appropriate intensity level would be best to include in your exercise regimen. He or she can provide expert advice and help you to modify and progress your exercise program on an ongoing basis.
Take the initiative to find the best exercise activities for your needs and realistic goals. The areas that are important to consider for staying healthy, active and independent include: strength, endurance, balance, optimal posture, flexibility, maximum capacity for movement and more energy. Determine the best program for your individual needs. One size does not fit all. Individual needs and abilities vary and this is especially true of older adults.
Seek out activities that you enjoy. Program options can include but are not limited to weight/resistance training, cardiovascular machine work (treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent and upright stationary bikes, recumbent step machines), walking outside or on an indoor track, yoga and stretch classes, pilates (supervised), gardening, swimming, fishing, bicycling, golf, bowling, tennis, dancing, and/or modified aerobic dancing
Studies have confirmed that exercise can be safely and successfully implemented in older populations. Even the very sick and frail elderly can gain benefits that will enhance their quality of life. The resources are out there just waiting for you to tap into them. I have given you some general guidelines as to your available resources and different activities that you can include in your exercise program. Your individual needs and abilities are of prime concern when choosing the appropriate content of your program. This is important. Take the time and make your best effort in this area of your life. You will reap the benefits!
Leading an active adult lifestyle at Rio Vista is within your reach! Choose between a round of golf, utilizing the fitness center, taking fitness classes, swimming in the indoor pool, and much, much more.
Disclaimer: All information and answers are given for educational purposes only. Your individual needs may vary. Always consult with your physician before starting or changing any exercise fitness programs and activities.
